Having a Me Day Series, Digital Illustrations
In this work, I am exploring 21st-century beauty culture and the increased pressure to reach a standard of beauty that can only be attained through photo manipulation. This connection between beauty and digital editing informed the process of the work and the need to create in a digital space. Having a Me Day
is a commentary on the beauty industry's promotion of impossible beauty standards
through the promotion of beauty as self-care.
Through this shift in marketing, the billion-dollar beauty industry convinces women that
the attainment of beauty is directly related to personal happiness and satisfaction
and gives women a false sense of control. In reality, the continuous pursuit of beauty is often
exhausting, time-consuming, and expensive.
