Here's My Story

The goal of the Here's My Story inclusive public art project is to increase levels of community engagement and social cohesion through individual storytelling that highlights how racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity of our communities makes them stronger and more resilient.

Here's My Story is comprised of audio enabled benches, strategically located within public spaces throughout Rowan County, that tell stories of the past in the voice of those who lived them. Through this project the Department of Art & Design at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College addresses the void of public platforms for local populations that feel their voices have been consistently unheard and their stories predominantly untold.

By integrating these stories throughout the community via audio enabled seating, a site within the community can simultaneously provide these groups with a public presence and serve as a catalyst for new conversations that benefit all members of Rowan County.  The first installation of benches began December 3, 2020
